Stables (Konjušnica)
The town stables (Konjušnica) stand behind the pjaca, where the carters stop after coming down the road from Smokovje.
From above
Wide doors with hay, carts in the yard, a manure heap, and a škrlje stone-slab roof.
Inside
Eight stalls of 1.6 × 3.0 m off a 3.0 m aisle, a tack room and a cart shed, with a hayloft above.
The paddock
An 18 × 18 m paddock inside a 1.4 m dry-stone wall, with horses and mules, a stone trough and a mulberry tree.
Why here
Beside the carters' arrival and the only green ground in town, the valley floor where the torrent soaks in. Under the maestral the smell drifts down the cart street to the sea, not over the square.
