History of Island 1
The history of Island 1 is told in stone: in the Glavica's layers, going down is going back in time. This timeline collects what the plans establish; the rest is still to be written.
Timeline
| When | What happened | Page |
|---|---|---|
| Before the Iron Age | The sea is already held back beneath the headland by something unknown | The held sea |
| Iron Age, about 5th–1st c. BC | The Delmatae build a hillfort (gradina) on the Glavica's crown and a sanctum below the sea around the source. A prehistoric ring wall also stands on the ridge saddle, later reused by Gradina | The Illyrian hillfort |
| Late Roman, about 3rd–5th c. | A Roman official's octagonal tomb is raised on the crown; the fossores cut catacombs; a cistern is built in the cave | The Roman tomb |
| About 1340 | A patrician family takes the tomb, sets a stone finial on its roof and cuts its crypt. Their founder goes deeper and strikes a bargain | The patrician family |
| After 1340 | The town buries its dead round the family's tomb on the headland | Glavica Cemetery |
| 1340s to about 1600 | The family's burials; a plague year ends the founder's line | The patrician family |
| Medieval | Stara Luka grows as the island's port under Venetian influence (carved stone, balconies on consoles, the campanile). A family from Smokovje emigrates, leaving a ruin with a fig | Stara Luka, Smokovje |
| The night before the game | Three grave-robbers from the town enter the mausoleum and never come back up | Townsfolk of Stara Luka |
| The game begins | The dead have risen in the Glavica Cemetery | Game overview |
Society
- Stara Luka is planned as the island's port and the seat of a count (his hall is deferred for the demo).
- Valponte, the inland market town, is the seat of the landholding family.
- Gradina is a garrison and toll post; its soldiers are paid from the interior.
Not yet decided
Years and dates, the names of the count, the families and the island itself, the wider history of the realm, and how the islands relate: Unconfirmed — awaiting the director.
