The LOAA setting is medieval, with a few fantasy touches, inspired by Dungeons & Dragons, Skyrim and World of Warcraft Classic.
Grounded first
- Technology, architecture, clothing and tools stay true to the real Middle Ages.
- Fantasy elements (magic, creatures, the occasional arcane or unusual structure) are rare accents, not the norm.
- Every island follows this setting, with its own regional culture on top.
- Static and natural content stays true to physics, geology and geography. Magic appears only where a spec allows it.
Where the supernatural lives
In the first demo the supernatural is confined to one place: the Glavica headland and everything beneath it.
- The source: one thing, in the deepest chamber of the mausoleum dungeon, holds the dead on the headland. What it is remains Unconfirmed — awaiting the director.
- Its reach: the cemetery walls and everything under the headland. Outside it, nature and physics hold. The town is safe.
- What it does: the dead rise; below the water table the sea is held back as standing walls of water (The held sea); one cold, dim light marks the source and the held water.
- What it doesn't do: no floating stones, no reversed gravity, no glowing runes on every wall, no green fog. Light underground comes from what people brought: lamps, torches, lanterns, and daylight through the rock.
Standing world rules
- No real-world religious symbols (director, 2026-09-29): "game will be without religious symbols of our earth religions, anchor can stay because grave can be of a sailor". Temples and chapels keep their architecture without crosses or saint imagery; a single in-world faith symbol will be designed later (card FAITH-1).
- No text or signs yet. Buildings show their purpose through architecture and trade props; empty brackets mark where signs will go in a later labeling pass.
- No AI-slop fantasy: no glowing runes everywhere, no ornament without function, no gibberish text.
