Konoba Kod Frane
Konoba Kod Frane ("Frane's tavern") is the inn of Stara Luka: a two-storey stone konoba with a vine-covered terrace looking at the pier, casks in its barrel bay and smoke from two flues. It is the first finished building of LOAA and the party's starting point.
Purpose from above
Its trade reads at once from the default camera: - the vine odrina (pergola) over tables toward the pier; - casks and amphorae in the barrel bay under the landing; - two smoking flues; - the balatura, the outside stone stair to the upper floor; - the yard with a cart, the stable and the store wing.
Rooms
Ground floor
- The common room (the konoba taproom). The hero pieces are the hearth (a raised fire under a hood, with a grill for fish and meat and a cauldron on its trammel) and the bar, two dressed stone blocks under a polished oak plank. A peg rail of split tally sticks keeps the regulars' debts, in notches, never in writing. Barrels lie on a long cradle; on one table a dice game lies abandoned mid-throw, on another a half-eaten meal. The floor is worn warm oak boards in random lengths, with no grid.
- The kitchen. A hooded hearth with an iron peka (a baking bell), the oven mouth, a kneading chest with its lid ajar, a plate rack, and a basket of fresh bread on the work table.
- The barrel bay. A porch under the landing with wine barrels on a cradle and an amphora rack, seen from the street through two arches.
- The cask niche, hidden in the core of the balatura.
Upper floor
- The landing at the top of the balatura: a reward seat framing the harbour, basil and carnations in pots, a linen cloth drying on the parapet, a lamp for the night.
- The sala: the calm entry, where a carter has dropped his saddlebag and whip on the bench.
- The dormitory (the carters' room): a timber sleeping platform with four straw ticks, one rolled up; dice and a pair of boots under the edge.
- The innkeeper's room: the family's room, with an iron-bound strongbox half pushed under the bed. It holds the takings.
- The guest room: the better room, for merchants; a balance scale and its weights sit on the merchant's chest.
Every room keeps a clear 3 × 3 m floor for the party, and the roof, upper floor and walls come away for the top-down camera.
People
- Ante Carić keeps the inn and pours the wine; he keeps his regulars' debts on notched tally sticks.
- Kate, his wife, runs the kitchen.
- Frane (about 16) runs the yard, the stable and the carts, and lights the lamp at dusk.
- Nikola (about 8) plays on the balatura and hides things in the cask niche.
- The inn has a dog.
The local legend
A worn ancient relief of a vine scroll with a dolphin is set, a little crooked, in the wall beside the konoba arch. Regulars touch it for luck on the way in, so it is polished smooth. It came from the ruins of the middle island. No inscription, no glow, no magic.
Signs
None yet: the inn carries only an empty mount, sign_mount_bld_inn_02_01, for the later labeling pass.
Where it stands
The inn was designed (brief rev 2, 2026-09-24) as the roadside inn at the lower edge of Smokovje. The Stara Luka town plan (TOWN-D1 rev 3) places the same building, unchanged, on the riva at the pier square, where it is named Konoba Kod Frane. The director liked the inn as designed and asked for only the look to change: "i liked the inn how it was made before, we just need new design".
Development
- Restyled, not rebuilt, after the pivot. Materials v6–v8 and 74 painted props (0 placeholders); worn floors, solid-block stairs on invisible ramps, cutaway groups per face.
- Navigation: routes 7/7, probes 82/84.
- A red-cushioned settle that read as a sofa by the fire was replaced with a plain wooden bench (logic check).
